I do think it may be a registry mark as I said in my OP. I can only make out the I at the top which means metal.
mine definitely has a mark on the back also. I do see how it might not be a hood ornament as the back is not pleasing to look at and wouldn't it...
Yes there is a hole in the top of his head and one just above the wheel on his lower back. Thanks for the thought I will look into that!!
