I'd definitely keep it and put it in my living room so people could look at it. I'd separate the pages from the book and enclose them in archival...
Around here, I think they call that a dough box. Make the bread dough in it, then close it to let the dough rise.

Does the body have a little give to it when you squeeze it gently? It could be celluloid. But it looks like a newer wood import to me.
