It's 15 3/4 inch when you hold it straight up. To function that back leg swings out to hold it up and it's less than that. I'd love to post more...

Yes I am in the US. I do have a lot of Dutch ancestors but I doubt if they'd bring that from Holland.

My grandfather {born in 1891}did collect antiques and I suspect that is where it came from.
I do know that it was displayed in my mom's house since 1977 when she moved to Arkansas. Before that, I don't know.
