I always disagreed with the "expert". It looks like Oak to me and I'm 99% sure it's Spanish.
Sorry he also Spanish in addition to a 1600-1640. The most similar one I found on the internet was Spanish from 1580.

Sorry, the picture I put of one side looks like multiple boards but they are just splits in the wood. Both sides are single boards as is the lid.
