Boy, that chrome tray is in wonderful shape, often on pieces like this the chrome is pitted. And that blue glass is perfect with it, makes it sing :D

It's not a matter of cachet, it is the value of gold vs. gold filled. Solid gold is worth more than base metal coated with gold.
