    I actually do think it's a coating,at least on the smaller but longer one...I can pull it off ( I HAVEN'T :) ) but I do think it has shellac on it...

    They could be plastic,as ever I am clueless..they are very lightweight This is one of the strands...they are dry in appearance and have a coating...
