I have had many pieces of sterling with glued in marcasites. Polish that poor puppy up :)

Test your piece along side a known piece of silver. Check sterling with it and see if you get the same results. If it looks weak, test it along...
800 means 800 silver, less than sterling which is 925. Your piece looks like a bowl, not a vase, am I seeing it correctly?
