If it is an old shade, I would not have it modified. Better to find a different correct base for it. If newer, not a problem.

Italy was churning these out in the 50s-60s for export. I would doubt any earlier than this and possibly quite a bit later.
Might look at Bradley and Hubbard. They did some green patina lamps, are known for similar iron weighted bottoms, and sometimes used Hubbel sockets.
