DH and I visited Maryland maybe 20 years ago, and the Ward Museum was a real highlight for us. They have an amazing collection!
Can you take them in so they can inspect them in person? If you don't like what you hear you could always take them home again.

The second set probably has a sterling clasp and they may be cultured pearls. I have had costume pearls that were knotted and had a sterling clasp...

Yea, I've seen the fountains, and they don't do anything for me either. I've seen them "peeing" into back yard pools - YUCK!!!!!
