Not sure why it looks that way but not missing a knob. The knobs are all replacements that someone put on when this was refinished. I could tell...

I think at least the first half of the 20th century but could be slightly older. Here are some tansu sold through Skinner's for comparison....

For bonnets or hats kind of used interchangeably here. Preferred form is bonnet chest for some reason.... sounds fancier ;)

Tansu chest and I do think this one has a bit of age to it. The paper lining and iron-work makes me think Korean in origin.
