They wore them again in the 50s to some extent. I'd restring if planning to wear them, since older cotton breaks at a dirty look.
I've seen these before. Great idea, but not sure I could bear to get wine stains on them which defeats the purpose .

I'm more prone to nab Arts & Crafts period pieces, but Aesthetic period Victorian is good stuff too.
Oddly I rather like these. The "create because you have no other choice" thing resonates too. Some of the best art was made for that reason....

I'd say about the same. Victorian furniture doesn't move quickly any more, unlike the 1980s, but it's nice looking and probably sturdy.
It's been recovered a few times if it's an old one. The bottom looks pretty old to me, but I'm not an expert.
The design looks like one of those in use pretty well constantly since the 18th century. We can see why.
