The amethyst definitely looks Bohemian to me. There's a Chinese company makign amber glass paperweights of good quality, but I've lost the name.
1878 to 1900 mark. That's a pattern number. It's not worth a great deal on its own, but it is very pretty.
Some of the Bohemian garnets were actually glass - Jablonec was famous for it. Should have. I do know that feeling!
