It's a measure of volume in British Imperial. Eight drachms are one fluid ounce. I don't think you guys use it. ;)

That purse is a spectacle case. 1d is an Imperial measure and my brain has lost what it stands for.
I suspect it has much to do with it being post WW2 and the massive export drives then. Festival of Britain and all that.
