So it does indeed seem to be a lady from the Tang Dynasty, however ...I still think the depiction is by a Japanese hand.
I don't think it's Chinese; clothing etc wrong; script too stylized. Japanese. Could be Benten

African, soapstone can't remember where exactly, very common import I think described as Shona but don't quote me on that

Chinese, fairly recent ~20 years at most, could be brand new too. Box style with those bone or plastic toggles, quite typical.
