My wife worked in the 1980's in the Chinatown care centre and told me there was an old lady there with tiny feet.
Those are box hinges, designed to keep the lid from folding over completely. Common on boxes of all ages.

May be, but usually Asian pieces have polished pontils, somewhat hurriedly polished but IME almost always ground, not cut like this one.

Yes they are a circular saw. Pit saw marks tend to vary slightly in angle and spacing.
