I don't think it hurt them, I think it was designed to save the vets fingers, horses I think?

There isn't any hard and fast rule to either
Old Khatam is very rare, Sadeli is far more common
They both just have different looks, both are made from 1000's of bits of micro mosaics laid on top of wood, sorry I know I'm not being much help :(
