Did you taste them and know what black coral taste like? Yes,the crack and dot can been seen on black coral.
The black ones look like black coral.
Boxwood carvings have been stained/dyed for many years.
You should be able to see the lines on the bottom of the feet.The outside layer is plainly visible and maybe the Schreger lines have been bleached...

The other question is where are the other parts? It is too small to be a "cane topper",maybe it's missing the other 80% of it's body.

There is nothing in the photos to date the piece,it does not have a maker's mark,is the diamond an old cut... they are still used today.

It was drilled before it was soldered to the front piece.
After looking at more posted examples,the holes were drilled and not punched. The raised area in the holes are from not drilling all the way...
Looks like "red dragon agate",heat quenched and dyed chalcedony.
I believe the "P" is a makers mark,for plumb gold the "P" is next to the "K".
Looks like some do..............
