Well those guys on the French pottery forum must need glasses! Not Chinese for sure, molded not thrown so factory not studio pottery ....plus...
Not arguing! I have never seen that done, that's all ...and I'm curious -
I'd use clear wax, but maybe shoe polish is worth a try in the scratches?
1 19thc is from 1800-1900 although I think you decanter is nearer 1900 than 1800.;)
Too bad some a....ole took a hammer to it, nice carpenter's side axe. Built a few masts with these.
The uranium glass decanter on the left is much older than the depression era - my call, late 19thc.
I'm going with Thuringia and quite a bit older than the Ernst Bohne Sohne figures illustrated above ..
@Ownedbybear Here's the one I bought, no holes and in good condition ..sorry the pics aren't better ...it's very big! :( [ATTACH] [ATTACH]
They ARE very nice, very very "clean" though ..do they have the look of age to you? Any good old grime in the recesses? Could they be high...
I don't know who made it but I have two others from the (I think) same factory - here's one, it's about 3" tall. [ATTACH]
A little bit of wax might help, try a small section first to test
Not the norm maybe but not totally uncommon - here's one of mine - maybe a touch earlier, but not much. [IMG]
For sure. This bit is though.:p
Agate is chalcedony!:wacky:
Nope! - agate. Hard as the hobs of h--- Can't be scratched with a steel point. HARD!:wideyed:
Did a trade today and wound up with this piece ..it's carved from an agate and about 5" tall. Birdies and flowers from a boulder - cool! [ATTACH]...
How, pray tell? Oh ...I THINK I know what you're talking about - using a halftone screen with a "mezzotint" pattern instead of the usual dot...
Too far away to see if the top is Teak ..can't see why it would be though unless the maker ran out of rosewood ..post a pic of the side...
Now that is a beautiful glass!
Lovely glasses - I'd call them baluster rummers and from the type of construction and foot, early to mid-Victorian IMHO. Nice having the Manx...
