Featured “PLEASE HELP I/D”

Please help I’d this wood /leather vessel it’s about 6 1/2”tall and about 2” at the top looks very old to me but who knows I have had it for a couple of years but don’t know when or where it was made .like always thanks to everyone. Matt

Looks like an upside down drum to me:



The loop could be for carrying, or for your feet, to keep it securely in position while you are sitting on the ground, drumming away. Just guessing.
West African?

U know I'm talking about the cracks on the drum.........right ?

 

A gourd is smooth and has no wood grain. This is carved from a single piece of wood.

 

I had a very similar one in the 70s but mine was a gourd and undecorated. Mine was definitely a yak milk jug and was Tibetan. No question on mine as I worked for the major ethnic NY dealer who brought everything back himself. That work makes me think African too but those types of vessels were used in many undeveloped countries.
