The manager at a thrift store I used to go to every day called me & told me he was going by there & did I want to come look at some art - I said Yes! (I've been going through withdrawal from no thrift store hunting!
this is 1 of 2 paintings I bought for $80 - I googled G. Holmes and found a George Holmes & a George Augusta Holmes; both from the 1800's - this looks like it could be from that era (from back); can anyone tell me what I have?
    Thanks all

George Augusta holmes did animals and portraits so not his work. The other names you listed I couldn't find anything online that matches yours. No clue.

The George Holmes that comes up on the internet is a bit early. And sig doesn't match that of George Augustus Holmes. But could be another George Holmes. Looks right for period. But very clean, isn't it?

I don't know a lot about art, but I get very modern vibe from them both, despite the old looking frames.

That certainly looks like a work by the same artist. And looks like he stayed fairly close to home. Not sure you'll be able to get beyond 19 c. American School.

Maybe that’s because the image on the front looks very clean compared to the back. I suppose it might have been cleaned. Hard to tell, the frames do look old though.

It's also the hurried, clone tool way the leaves are done.

I also find it very interesting that aside from the works themselves, the Frames and Name plates are also Identical!!!! Even though the signatures ARE different!

I wish LiveAuctioneers had posted a better image!!!

I DO think the first painting DOES look old, at least to me.....VERY hard to tell from the Second painting that LiveAuctioneers had posted, as it was such a poor quality image....maybe the artist "could" have had some kind of damage to his writing/painting hand affecting his signature??? I know, but that also would have affected his painting too....just don't know.....

Those signatures look the same to me - thank you say it slowly for finding that!
