Why do you believe it dates to the 1700s? Size? What is the medium? Anything on the back?

Hi Debora, it looks like there is a name and date under the subjects right foot.

Hi Debora I'm not sure about the date it's 8 by 6 inches it looks like ink with bodycolour I bought a case full of small paintings some of them very old with holes and some missing parts I will post them later

There is nothing under the foot it's just a stain

Thank you for your responses to my questions. Would you be kind enough to post a photograph of the back?

Perhaps I should have specified an in focus, close-up photograph of the back so we could access the nails, backing material, wire -- all of which would be helpful in determining age?
