I’d love to get others opinions on this beautiful little butterfly brooch.
I was told 1900s and pink sapphire eyes, with diamonds.
I love this pin so much ,but need cash so I am going to attempt to sell it I think.
Told it was valued at auction for 800-1200. Hmmm

No Problem, just check the box for Display All Full Images, next time. It’s very pretty. Jewelry folks will be along.

PIcture of the back as a whole, please. And have you had it tested?

It isn't typical of Victorian insect stuff. The enamelling is really nice, diamond cut looks a fair bit later than 19th C. Not sure those are pink sapphires.

The gold is very bright. It actually looks more like good Indian or Middle Eastern jewellery to me. And maybe even post WW2. I cannot for the life of me decide what that mark reads.

    Looks a bit like 18, but I don’t see a K or C.

I know it’s most likely a waste of money, but I did an online appraisal. They claimed it to be an 18 kt gold reverse stamped. Said rose diamonds strips. And old cut diamond thorax. Let me see if I have more pics.
The stamp is super hard to figure out. I thought 18 kt too but it’s odd.

It is a little stunner. I love the detail on the antennae, with the stones at the tips.
But I'm with obb, it looks later, and I suspect Asian made.

The smaller diamonds look rose cut, which is an old style, but the diamond on the body looks like a round brilliant cut, which means post 1919. Pre-1919 brilliants were not perfectly round.
The rim of the setting is a bit sloppy, so I could be seeing a round stone when it is actually European cut (older brilliant cut, slight cushion shape).

Looking forward to more photos. How big is it?

You can go back to 'edit' on the photo post, and delete the extra ones.:)

The hinge and clasp combo certainly looks ca 1900, but that was used longer in Asia, so I'm still not sure.
From what I can see, the cut of the stones looks Asian to me too, but I could be wrong. Maybe @Hollyblue can tell us if I am seeing it right.

lol I dont know whos auction. Yes I agree. I need to figure out the gold content and the stones. I will have to bring it somewhere in person. It is about 1 1/3 inch from wing tip to tip on top. I knew the online appraisal was iffy and I felt it wasnt totally accurate. It was on a site called value my stuff dot com. I dont actually know what i was thinking in doing an online appraisal. I guess I was dying to know more and I was lying in bed sick. when I picked this pin up at second hand store it just made me happy. I love it and if I cant get a decent price I would keep it. Ive worn it once already. super cute brooch

It certainly is. And please don't do anything you will regret later on.
Good excuse imo.:) Hope you are feeling better now.

yes ...thanks I am ,other than the fact that i was climbing huge rocks friday on the ocean banks in hunt for driftwood. Not a good idea to carry a heavy back pack of wood and try to balance yourself jumping from rock to rock. Lol ended up with a bad pulled back muscle. Geesh its NO fun getting old :dead:

Those "rose diamond" (what?) strips look more like enamelling to me.
