100 years old this year. My new 1915 trench whistle manufactured by the famous Joseph Hudson whistle company :)

Got this in the post from a chap who didn't want it and decided it'd be better if it went to a collector who would appreciate it and enjoy it.

I'm not familiar with a "trench whistle." If it doesn't have a broad arrow/WD mark, how do you know it isn't a police whistle? Admittedly the WD could have simply bought police whistles for the troops to use but I'm ignorant there.

Trench Whistles are basically the same as Police Whistles, some had the broad arrow mark some did not but all had the Patent 5727 .08 which the OP`s has. upload_2015-7-8_17-48-39.png

Dave is essentially correct. Trench whistles and police whistles were more or less the same thing. The only thing that made them different was the markings on the barrel. Other than that, they were almost exactly the same.

Some trench whistles had arrow markings, some did not. I'm not sure what the significance of that is...

    Whistle, cuffs and baton.

The 70s was when police whistles died out. They were replaced by walkie-talkies and such things, shortly after that.

My entire whistle collection. My three police whistles are the three standing on the left. The next two along are general service whistles. The next one is my 1915 trench whistle. The last one is the Boy Scouts whistle.

The one lying on the left is a no-name German thingy. And the one lying on the right is a tiny little 'EMCA' whistle.

Trench Whistles & Police Whistles have been seen (and heard) in TV shows like...

    Poirot - starring David Suchet.
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes - starring Jeremy Brett.
Murdoch Mysteries - starring Yannick Bisson.

    And various movies as well.
