1934 Int'l RPPC backward,upside down writing

Discussion in 'Ephemera and Photographs' started by EastCoastTreasures, Mar 13, 2025.

  1. Hi;

    I have a b/w picture, postcard? of a couple. When you flip it over, the writing is on the upper left, upside down. I tried to hold it up to a mirror, straight and upside down, but I can't make out the letters/symbols except the first 3 which look like EID, D not fully closed. I can only make out the date of May 10, 1934. Google lens wasn't any help.

    Any clues?

    Thanks;

    The first letter of what the AI identifies as the first name does not look like the B in Bystry. Maybe a G?

    Showing right side up, in case anyone reads Yiddish. IMG_4752.jpeg

    Am I missing something? I don't see Yiddish. It's written with great hesitation. Looks more like a simple code to me. Perhaps the message written in reverse. ("Ein" means "a" in German although Yiddish too, of course.) And do you see the periods after each word in the signature? I wonder if it's not two surnames.

    I wondered whether it could be the location. Also whether the second word is abbreviated.

    It was a Thursday. It would be helpful if the photograph could be blown up.

    This is crazy but... I wondered if it might be an abbreviation for Buenos Aires. And, coincidentally, the vintage street lamps have similar shades.

    The word Bystry is part of several Russian placenames.
    I wonder if the script is Georgian.

    I hope @Nick Georgia still checks the forum out every now and then. If so, Nick do you recognize the script?
