I picked this up today at a thrift store for $2.00. I was impressed with the detail and the ability of the artist to paint in such a small format. The oval is 5" by 4.25". It is signed and dated, but I am struggling with the last name. Any thoughts?

I know it seems unlikely just looking at the signature in your images, but after comparing some signatures, I think you should consider David Hagerbaumer (American, 1921-2014). If that turns out to be the artist, $2 was an extremely good buy.

Thanks, that’s the right one. I could make out the “Hag”, but that was about it.

Looks like the shop or gallery was in Cincinnati.

I'd check this carefully and make sure it's not a print. I've found lots of prints on what looks like watercolor paper.

Looks like it could be a Teal for a USPS postage stamp. Maybe Ducks Unlimited? Beautiful.

Bev aka thelmasstuff Colored pencil artist extraordinaire ;)

I was going to suggest checking Ducks Unlimited. I had a friend whose painting was chosen one year.

Nice! That might have become a stamp also!

I checked the list, he never won the contest. I suspect that he entered it at least sometime over his career. I do own the etching that Les Kouba won with in 1967, believe it or not, another thrift store find.
