Asking about another painting and not expecting to get much help but figured it's worth a shot. I just purchased this painting today. It's unsigned British 19th century 35 x 25 inches framed. It kind of reminded me of works by James John Hill. Any thoughts? Thanks. 4 images attached.

You need to reload this one, it's not there at all. The other one opens in a separate window.

Appears from internet search that Stark Brothers was a Dublin-based firm. Described as "printsellers, artists, colourmen, & picture frame manufacturers." Victorian, of course, and in business as early as 1862.

Didn't even think to look up the label yet, thanks. Picture was dated to about 1870-1880. I wonder if there's a signature hidden underneath the inner slip...

By whom? How? (I ask because it looks a bit earlier to my eye.)

The auction where I purchased it. I agree though. Maybe 1860s?

It looks mid-Victorian to my eye. Not late.

I'm basing that on the pagoda sleeve-effect.

oh ok, interesting. I was thinking it more based on the stylized look of the face. I've seen more 1850s-1860s have that sort of look.
