As far as I remember, they live in three neighbourhoods.</p><p>Many people use the term Roma for all Gypsy groups, because the name Gypsy has been abused by some people. But overhere we tend not to use Roma for all Gypsy groups, because to us Roma are Gypsies from Eastern Europe and parts of Western Asia. We do use the word Romani.</p><p><br /></p><p>The Continental Western European Gypsy communities are Sinti, Manouche, Caló and Zincali. You can find some Roma groups in Western Europe, but they are not traditional here.</p><p>The traditional Gypsy community of Arles is Sinto (Sinti), related to the Manouche of central and northern France. Later the Caló came to Provence from Spain and North Africa.</p><p><br /></p><p>Our Dutch Gypsies are also Sinti btw, very friendly and hospitable people. We have some Roma, mostly refugees from Hungary and the former Yugoslavia.</p><p>The Sinti also live in Germany.</p><p>How a group of Sinti ended up in Provence, however, is one of history&#039;s mysteries. Many of them still have German surnames, like many of our Sinti.</p><p><br /></p><p>We call English, Welsh and Scottish Gypsies Romanichal.
