    Hi All,

My sister and I have a family opal ring. Trying to determine the approximate age. It was made by Plainville Stock Co. They were in business from 1896 thru 1980s. Can anyone give an educated guess based on the setting? Also we've been putting oil on it occasionally. I just read oil is not good, just soapy water. Can anyone confirm, please.
    Thank you for looking. IMG_5489.jpeg IMG_5494.jpeg IMG_5490.jpeg

It looks like an older style, but you would need the experts here to help. I would never oil an opal since it not needed for most opals,Mexican and Ethiopian have been oiled though. see link for expert cleaning practices... https://www.gemsociety.org/article/clean-pearls-opals/

I wish we had some photos of the first one that were in focus on the setting and shoulders. I love a good opal ring. :joyful:

No idea what the side stones are. The red background messes me up. Rose cut diamonds could look like that, but there's no way to really be sure from that photo.
