Any help with this piece? It is approx 9 x 7" and weights 5 lbs. Some kind of clay, not plaster or chalkware.

Reminds me a bit of California pottery from the 60s/70s, but the scene almost looks European. A lot of different glazes, etc.

Curious if anyone has ever run into anything similar. Thanks.

    Thanks Aquitaine!

Not plaster, but some kind of ceramic. Both glazed and unglazed.

Those certainly look like the canal houses in Amsterdam. But could, of course, be somewhere else.

Thanks! I am at a total loss for this one, but have to say I was thinking "Holland" or similar exactly for the same reason, the shapes of the buildings.

It isn't a mass produced piece, I think something out of a studio maybe? Pretty sure it was hand done based on the different glazes, some matte, some glossy, the cuts in the clay, the glazed eyes on the people added later, etc.

It sort of reminded me of a 1968 Hal Fromhold ceramic piece I got (positively not him for this) but things about the construction felt similar.

    Any tips much appreciated.

The houses do have Dutch gables, which you get here, too. The woman looks like a typically depicted English 1960s housewife, tho'. I wonder what that dome is supposed to be. My thought was somewhere like Grimsby or Hull, one of our fishing ports.

The 'dome' is a tree. Look at the trunk.

    So it is!

I've just had another thought. The colours on this are very reminiscent of 1970s Cornish pottery. As is that sgraffito. I wonder if that's where it came from.
