Pretty, but condition issues.:( Too expensive in my opinion, and restoration, if at all possible, would cost too much.

I believe the lady reading the book is a lithograph not an engraving. The price seems very high to me and they are hard to resell. Would it be possible to get a close up of the writing at the base of the engraving, then we can figure our the artist of the image and who engraved the plate.

For me a real Gravure Engraving..?? Margine on the side looks authentic..Despite Humidity stain....You know better I am sure...Am not so sure with this all lot of Engravings at this price....And as well find them difficult and costly to be restored.

I am pretty sure it is a lithograph, even though it has a plate mark. In the U.S. it would sell for very little money.

it's easy to learn, you just buy lots of books on a subject and study them for 30 years ..Voila!

... or more.;) And study them in real life as much as you can. The same goes for any antique or collectable.

Jacques I stand corrected. I did some research on this engraver Jubier and he used a technique which I was not familiar with, it is called "chalk engraving. The goal is to produce a print that looks like a crayon drawing. This technique was later replaced with lithography. You learn something new everyday.:shame:

An engraving is not necessarily a lithograph.
