This was an eBay find from about a week ago. Took a bit of research, but I finally figured out what it is.

The lighter had some quite significant dents on the cap when I bought it. A bit of dent-removal with a hammer and punch soon sorted that out, and then a gentle polish.

Here you can see it, alongside my other lighters. Replacing the wick was a real struggle with this one, but I got there in the end. I also replaced all the cotton inside, and it lights up like new.

Thanks. Any idea how old that makes it?

My guess is 1930-50. Does that make sense with the inside construction?

    I think so, yes.

I saw a few of these lighters online. They were very expensive, and a lot of them were badly damaged.

This was the cheapest, and the best condition.

You don't see them very often here either, and we were the main market outside Java. Hundreds of ashtrays, but very few table lighters.

    Purtayto - purtahto...

It was $120. All the others were $300, $400+.

I just saw one here for 45 euros, one tiny dent that I can see, and slightly less intricate than yours. But we're a different market of course.

Here of course they don't show up at all. One can hope people don't know what they have when they do.
