I did show some items on the Board including this that my late Dad found metal detecting.
Anyway yesterday I sent off a pic of one piece to the local Museums service and they seem quite excited by it, they have described it as an 8th century gilt bronze linking pin.
They want to see all the bits he found so should be interesting.
    4cm x 3cm.

Think it was attached to one started by Mr Treasure Hunter. Here’s the pics again. The round lead thing is a early Christian seal. The bronze Roman man on horseback is lovely. Favourite is still the caltrap spaceship button!

The Curator has just sent me this pic of a complete silver gilt pin set, in the British Museum, called the Witham pin set.

That gives an idea of what yours would have been like. Such a wonderful thing to have.

This is the Witham pin set on the site of the British Museum:

Being a bling girl I liked this part of the description::joyful:
"the most spectacular manifestation of the Middle Saxon taste for showy dress pins"

I love this. The finding, the appreciation and then the discovery of it's significance. Please keep us posted!

Hmm, showy dress pin that I thought was likely a bit of horse harness or fallen off a box or something! Duh!
It appears the Curator did know my Dad as Dad had previously donated a Dirham Foil that’s on display at the Norwich Castle.
He also said the design on the pin is animalistic in the Mercian style and wants to see all the bits I have even if I think it’s of no interest though I think the pin is likely the best item.
Will certainly keep sharing any info:)

    P.S It’s 8th Century not 9th. Just re-read his email.

Yes, we too would have had a Middle Saxon taste for showy dress pins, even if we were not in Middle Saxon territory.;)

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Nice finds, @Houseful . What is the item in the top middle? It looks like it might be a piece of jewelry?
