A find in an antique shop

I found this photo among a pile of old photos in an antique store. I almost screamed, "It's a Young Charlie Chaplin!" And I ended up buying it!

 

Is it truly him? How do you know?

Always like a an antique clown pic-not sure it's Charlie Chaplin though ? Perhaps experts can run various biometric tests on it to confirm facial measurements etc.
Debora and some of our other experts may be able to supply a chronology of Chaplin's early career to see if/when and what type of clown costume he would've worn ?

 

I think Chaplin simply put on the suit for the photos, since he was wearing a shirt and shoes under the suit. So he quickly put it on for the public, tried it on.

 

This is my personal opinion

I did a quick and dirty height comparison using the height of the head as a gauge, minus the hat.

about 7.5 heads tall

Chaplin:
about 6.5 heads tall

This one of Charlie's first appearances as The Tramp- 'Kid Auto Races at Venice Beach' 1914.
The 6 minute 22 second short is Chaplin improvising and ad-libbing in front of a real race and an unwitting public crowd. Nobody at this event knows who Charlie Chaplin is, almost nobody in the world does at this point in history.
You can bet that 112 years later thousands of peoples descendants are claiming (true or false) their ancestors were there.

Not Charlie, but the clown costume is from the right era.

 

The pic of him scowling into the camera also shows that unique ear!
