Yes, I said DELICIOUS. Are these alabaster or marble? Any idea on the time period? I'm thinking 1940's? They are 20 inches tall, not including the works and weigh 18 pounds each.

    Scrumptious!

I thought alabaster was a whitish, translucent soft stone.
These exquisite lamps seem none of those.
    Marble, then, or Onyx...

Your lamps are lovely and ever so much nicer than a pair I have.

Mine do still have a label so just thought they might show what alabaster can be like.

I got them at a local auction some time ago so don't know anything more about them.

Very handsome. They'll take a shade nicely. Look like alabaster to me too.

Could be calcite. I'm reading online that banded calcite sometimes is called onyx.

Can you check the hardness? Looking online, alabaster has a MOHS hardness of 1.5-2, calcite 3, and onyx 7.

Very nice. I would have thought marble, but that is how little I know about this sort of thing.

Thanks for all the info! I think I'll call them "ala-marble" or "mar-baster" ??

Or, for the $10 I paid for them, I will just call them MINE!

Think these are quite a bit newer. 1980s or so to my eye.

For that price as long as they're not plastic, they're going home!

The plug on the cord can sometimes give a hint as to date if original to the lamps.

    Very nice colors!
