Featured aboriginal? bird carving

Hi folks

something else i found in a charity shop this week for a couple of quid.
wondering where it might have originated from and possible age.
the painted parts make me think aboriginal but could be way off
any idea what type of bird it is ?
measures 8 inches
any thoughts or info appreciated

 

It could be Tiwi, but the stylisation of the shape is much more modern than the Tiwi carvings I know and the painting is different.
The Tiwi live on Bathurst Island and Melville Island in northern Australia.
Let's wait for other eyes.

its that little dotted decoration area on the tail that makes me think possible aboriginal/australian

 

Aboriginal dotted paintings are mainly from Central Australia, not a region known for much woodcarving (desert).
The closest animal carvings to Central Australia are done by the Pitjantjatjara in the north of South Australia, but they carve ground-dwelling animals, and the style is very different from this.

It is probably from another part of the world.
