Now that you&#039;ve asked that, I&#039;m re-examining and vacillating back and forth between under glaze or etched. </p><p>The whole area inside the foot-ring is more matte and slightly rougher that the glaze outside the ring. I can&#039;t feel the marks with my finger tip, but I can feel the edges of the circle mark that contains the text with my <i>fingernail</i>, but not the text marks. </p><p>So, it could be a lightly impressed mark under the glaze.</p><p><br /></p><p>[USER=201]@Pat P[/USER] - I did try rubbing it with pencil lead. It didn&#039;t work to highlight the text and make it stand out, to my disappointment.
