    Hi everyone,

I've managed to get hold of this unusual wooden Russian bookmarker (not sure about correct word for this). I bought this as I am going to resell it but I am not sure about its value.
The image is from a Russian fairytale. The text in old Russian means: Come and take potluck with us. It was made before 1917, as that year there was a spelling reform and some letters were cancelled.
Any advice from book collectors is welcome.

    Thanks,
    Natasha

'BOOKMARKER' is probably fine but we simply call it a bookmark. :)

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Hi and WELCOME, Natasha!! Your Bookmark is just lovely!!!!!:happy: Is it very thin wood or fairly 'sturdy'?? It also looks to be a very collectable item!!

Hi Aquitaine, thanks for your interest. The wood is pretty hard as for bookmark. At least it cannot be bent, you would rather break it. Also, it is not flat, on the top it is thinner than on the bottom. I wanted to take a photo but I cannot find anything to compare.

This looks like a busk (corset stay) to me, BWDIK.

I almost agree, but I don't think that it is "pliable" enough. Wood was seldom used after about 1550, though...................

It could be a page turner too, for all of those expensive antique books.

Thanks for all your suggestions. However, I do not think this is a corset busk. I got it together with this wooden knife for cutting pages, from the same box which belonged to the deceased book collector. Yet, obviously this is not a set. So, I have to decide if I should sell it separately or together and to check the market.
