I would love to here from anybody that can tell me anything about these figures I bought at an auction. At least one of them looks Dogon??

    Thanks a lot :)

The second carving wants to be an ancestor figure, "Adu Zatua", from the Island of Nias, Indonesia.

The third and fourth are probably Makonde blackwood carvings from East Africa - a style referred to as "binadamu", which realistically portrays people in daily activities.

The first one appears to be African, but not a style I would be certain of.

All are of indifferent quality, imo.

I agree with 2manybooks. None bears any resemblance to traditional Dogon style of art.

African art is a morass of fakes, late copies, tourist carvings....and what it takes to know what the real stuff is...........is years of book learning , hands on learning....and a really good eye !
    just sayin......

Yeah I understand, I didn't pay much for these so its no loss. Here is another one that came from the same lot. Again, if anybody can tell me anything then I would be very grateful. Thanks!

I think the subject is a "see no evil" monkey, but I don't know who made it.
