I just found this amber looking necklace and am wondering if it is genuine or not. Only test I have tried so far is the 'static' test - passed. It is 24" long and weighs 68.5 grams. Largest bead is approx .8" by .6". What do you think? Let me know if you would like to see more pics. Did I find a find? Thanks for looking!!! Thanks evelyb30! I wasn't sure if it would be best called egg yolk or butterscotch.

Thanks! It's nice to be "seen"! I haven't found much of anything worth sharing or asking about in quite a long time so have been mostly lurking.

I always do a black light test. Cheap flashlights are available on amazon

UV test is needed, but that looks butterscotch amber to me. That's going to sell well, to say the least.

Thanks AJ, I did do a salt water test using the female half of the clasp...it floated (yay!). I also tried the UV but I'm not really sure what kind of florescence to look for. I wouldn't say it 'glowed' but I could see it (it was just kind of dull looking...boo!). I don't want to list it until I am 100% sure.

It's best desribed as a diffuse blue veil.

UV light test - FALSE or at least INCONCLUSIVE (to me anyway). All other tests I tried are positive (the usual tests you find online). I have taken it to a local jeweler...will let you know the response. But I am afraid this may be a very good fake. On the up side, the lady at the jewelers was very friendly and welcoming. I think I will be able to use them as a future resource for other evaluations and possible small repairs.

Yes, report back and let us know what the jeweler says. If your camera can manage it, could you get a photo of the necklace under the black light? (I'm learning here as well.) :)

    Thanks!

Ah, you're not holding it close enough. You need a UV that has a fairly focussed beam. Get it close to one of the beads.
