    Can I give it a vinegar bath? I tried a sunshine cloth on the chain but to no avail. I would really like to clean up the chain if possible. Any opinions of age would be welcome too. Thank you.

    Vinegar bath - I'd use white.

    I'll use brown if I can get away with it, but I'd not on that white metal, just in case.

    Nickel-plated brass? It may not shine up much no matter what.

    You may be right Evelyb. The clasp says Plated at the bottom.
