From what I could research I think this is from the 2nd Boer war (1899-1902) and a 15-pdr Begbie Foundry (Johannesburg) common 18 grooves shell made by the Boers for captured British field guns (these guns were in service from 1892-1918) Obviously I don’t know when bird was put on (looks ‘engraved’ on)Think it’s a Grey Heron. The shell stands 30cm tall and weighs about 4,25kg. Thanks for any comments.[/QUOTE]
