I am assuming this is costume jewelry. No makers mark. Anyone have any ideas?

    TIA janette

It's older - 1930s ish. Did you try the pearls on your teeth?

LOL--guess you did not see my post on other pin thread ..re: every pearl I have feels the same--slightly gritty...so either my teeth are rough or I only own real pearls...
PS--not sure if can be seen in pics...pearls are prong set.

I am seeing pearls that are not uniform in size and color, so I am guessing cultured sea pearls. They were used a lot even in costume jewelry. The pin backing is a bit odd, the hinge end looks soldered on.... reminds me of the end of a tube hinge... any marks anywhere on the piece? I have also never seen an open star back like that.

    Thanks for your reply.
I have checked with a loop a lot..but will try again tomorrow.
Yes--one end of pin seems soldered or something..but really have to look close to see it.

This one has a tube hinge, so it might be older than you thought.

Looks like a replacement hinge soldered with lead solder.

Are you sure it is costume? It looks quality. Can we see a photo in better light without the shadows please?

I picked up a 18K unmarked gold brooch similar to this one. It was unmarked. Sold it to my gold buyer for a quick nifty profit. Get it tested as it has the look of 14K gold :)

Sometimes they're marked but the mark is hard to see.

I know ! But believe me..I have checked with a loop for days..in different light etc.
If it is marked...it was done with a by an elf with a needle the size of a human hair!

I’ve done that and been convinced there isn’t one only for someone on here to say ‘what’s that’ and point out a really obvious mark that I’ve missed :hilarious::rolleyes:
