I haven&#039;t seen another art deco or Nichols rug with this specific portrayal of vegetation, although I have spotted a few lovely magenta ones in a similar tone.</p><p><br /></p><p>What I love is, in low lighting, the magenta tone turns red. So, it fits my red-gold-black-emerald decor, but in daylight, the pink tones pop out, and provide a flash of color to the room.</p><p><br /></p><p>Hand-woven, based on the variance in the stitching style. I can provide clearer images of the fringe and bottom, if need be. Edit: The fringe actually appears to be sewn-on.</p><p><br /></p><p>(Also, the vines look more serpentine than I&#039;ve seen in other art deco rugs, and have to wonder if this is transitional period, 1910s-1920s, because there is a very slight art nouveau whimsy, in my mind, based on the vines&#039; shapes)</p><p><br /></p><p>Sadly, there is a hole in it. I&#039;ve been thinking of trying to repair it myself, or at least prevent the hole from growing. Since I paid so little, it&#039;s not worth taking it to a professional to repair. I know that the hole affects value, but from my research, this rug is worth well above $100, even with the damage. It measures probably 14x10 or 12x10. Over 100 pounds, I&#039;m guessing, just based on how unwieldly it is to try moving it myself. Probably closer to 150-200, just hard to tell, since I haven&#039;t tried weighing it.</p><p><br /></p><p>According to my research, most rugs from this era are 100% wool. I have two other art deco Chinese rugs, but they don&#039;t have the same satiny sheen that this one has; I&#039;m wondering if this might be silk over a wool base.
