Afraid I can't provide too much help. The wood is mahogany. I think European in origin but can't really pin it to a more specific location. Sometime third quarter of the 19th century, give or take for a date. This could be a marriage as the back-plate on the sconce extends past the flat part on the wood plaque a bit. They do seem to have been together a long time.

I might be wrong...But became suddenly after all those responses and facts...That this Candle Holder might have been originally Portuguese or Dutch....Then Have noticed that inhabitants mixed in old Ceylan..Use to add Brass decoration and additional fittings in most of their Dutch designed and built Furnitures ......Don't you think it might has been the reason..??

Hi again...As I mentioned and discovered since I have been aware that some of my collection pieces are from Dutch Period in Ceylan....And knowing that Ceylanese mixed with Dutch colonisation..Use to charge Furniture and Objects with some additionnal Brass fittings.....What do you think..Might be the reason..??
