    Hello all,

I recently purchased this ring and was hoping I could get some help in clarifying it's age. Apparently it is rose gold, and the makers hallmarks 'HB&S' seem to date it to the Art Deco era, however, I cannot help but suspect that the cameo itself might be older as the design looks victorian to me. Additionally, the design on the shank doesn't necessarily look very Art Deco to me. Thank you for any help :) Screenshot 2022-11-15 at 16.53.40.png Screenshot 2022-11-15 at 16.53.53.png Screenshot 2022-11-15 at 16.54.45.png

It's hard to see detail, is her hair bobbed? If so she dates to the age of the ring.

Everything about it says Deco, including the lady's bobbed hair. The cameo was cut in conch shell. She can have a bath in tepid water & mild soap, application of soft toothbrush.

I tried to bring some detail back in to the images......pretty hard with them that light.....in your third picture, there's something written on the very left edge of the ring.....can you read it? I think it shows up a little better here.... bottom image shows her hair bobbed.....

Hi, thank you for doing this, if you're referring to the hallmark next to the makers mark it is just a 9 ct marking, however, if I'm not seeing what you're referring to please let me know! thanks

Herbert Bushell and Son. The ring looks earlier than the cameo.

Other items from this maker seem to show full hallmarks on all of them, I find it puzzling that this one only has the makers mark and metal purity

Take better photos ,too much light and reflections maybe try a light gray background. Appears the ring has been damaged and "repairs"made to it.

It's pretty typical of small late 19th and early 20th stuff. I see that 9 ct on its own a fair bit.

Are you sure that's writing and not just the texture of the metal? :)

Off topic, @rhysb , is you avatar photo in Amsterdam, or another town in the Netherlands?
I think the edge is just a bit textured where the shank has scraped against a rough surface. A jeweller can make that smooth again, no real issue.
The ring itself has a nice design.

Btw, Aqui, I like your squiggly arrow.:)

There is also some space between the setting and the cameo. The cameo is not a perfect oval.
The ring may have held a facet-cut stone once, or a smooth cabochon. I can see it with a gorgeous veined turquoise cab, Arts & Crafts style.

Yup, an "original" setting would have been tweaked to fit properly. Givcen it's rose gold, then coral is also a possibillity.
