I'm looking to bring back to life a vintage gas stove (picture down below). Gas being well gas once done I got to make it's all 100% safe and all but yeah, has anybody here worked (or know somebody who has...) on a antique gas or wooden stove?

    Welcome to Antiquers Kaz!

I know nothing about restoration, but I've always liked that style stove.

I love a gas kitchen stove myself. I happen to have a replica of the old black stove.

If the stove has the original town gas jets it will need conversion to natural gas. It may already have been done since it is a long time since coal gas was phased out.

I'm in California. There are two stove restoration places within an hours drive of me.
There are many old stove sites on the net.
I'm sure if you were to search the internet you would be able to find someone close to you.

Ohhhhhhhh if need be, I wonder if putting a pair of brand new gas/burner heads and new gas lines is an option? ...... maybe diy fit them and then get a gas fitter to do the connection and double check to make everything is good to go.....

I reckon there is plenty space under the gas cast iron plate for that and to get the old heads working again might prove difficult.. its an option and might be less of a headache tbh

Under the plate/grill, lots of space......

The plate from the top, switch the old heads.. you can see them...............

.. but I'd prefer to give the olds a second life ..

My understanding of these are that the burners are pretty simple, made of cast iron and virtually fool-proof. The pilot lights often need a good cleaning or could, possibly, need replaced. What tends to give problems are the gas regulators for the oven. Have seen many of these replaced with more modern versions on old stoves.

Thanks for the imput, I'm now more hopeful of getting it working again.. but actually using it on a regular basis will be tricky but maybe not, I hope not lol

Connecting that to the mains gas supply would be illegal in the UK , I don`t know if the same applies in Australia.
