Antique Ivory - A hard sell?

That would normally be my second principle in life: if an animal has been killed for it's materials, don't waste those materials. e.g. meat.
With one caveat: if the material is a luxury item- a material that has no fundamental essential use for us or other animals, then the animal shouldn't be killed.
Using, showing, trading the one thing African elephants are predominantly killed for just helps promote the industry and further killing.

 

Well, we could stop all the fuss by simply exterminating, humanely of course, all the remaining elephants. I meant to say, what are they really good for. They can't jump, they are not pretty, and they just eat stuff and poop.

Once all the elephants are gone we can trade the remaining ivory, safe in the knowledge that no further poaching is involved, plus the Great Elephant Cleanup, as I am calling it, would supply many tons of fresh ivory for carving and decoration.

 

I'm just going to add that selling all the ivory that has been burned by certain govt's , could have generated enough funds to hire a larger amount of rangers to stop poachers, and mount a bigger and better education program to help protect the animals in the wild.

 

While I agree I agree that these wonderful animals need protecting I'm still going to enjoy my collection without regret, I don't feel any guilt about buying beautiful items that were made well over a hundred years ago.
