    That was what I originally thought when I heard what he had done, but...............

    The effect, even a decade later is stunning, and as I said, so many people have asked to buy the table. The table has really aged beautifully, and looks original and untouched, even though it has been used not only as a kitchen table, but also as a workbench. It has had all sorts of engines and motors etc. laid out and worked on that table, and to be quite honest, it has enhanced the look over the years, and the surface is waterproof, so no stains of any sort, just a total darkening down of the surface. When he did it he did explain to me that it was an old restorers trick of the trade. It certainly worked in this case!

    @verybrad Thank you for that. It is certainly something to think about, though for the same reason that I will not French polish it, I am not sure that it is an avenue that I will go down, but I'll think on it and try it on a piece of scarp and see the effect. Thank you for the suggestion, it is appreciated.
