One of the photos in this lot appears to have been taken by the same mysterious "Koch" -- and it is a theatre picture, so there's that.

Granted, it's not much.

Ah, but apparently there were many, many theaters in the Bronx, including vaudeville houses.

"Inhabitants throughout the borough shopped in department stores and boutiques at East 149th Street and Third Avenue, an area known as the Hub that also had movie palaces, vaudeville theaters and The Bronx Opera House." 1920s. The Bronx County Historical Society. Albert Koch was just a couple blocks north.

Don't know whether this is the same Albert Koch -- an article from 1916 says that Albert Koch of New York City bought the Perrine photography studio in Binghamton, New York. So, he was either expanding or moving. It does give his background, saying he was from Germany and had been in the photography business for 47 years.

Presumably expanding, since he was also in NYC in 1923 or thereabouts. Maybe a job for his brother-in-law.

 

True, but we don't know whether the Albert Koch in the 1906 directory was the same person as "Koch" in 1923. It's a good theory, and I subscribe to it... but just trying to connect the dots and point out possible anomalies.
