Featured Antique Scales

In the description the etsy seller does say:
Brass beam, copper pans, silk cords

 

I found this rev. Gardner:
"Reverend Gardener Baldwin (1792-1852) M.a, J.P. was the Vicar of Leyland, Lancashire, England."
but Gardner is his first name. I assume people wouldn't call a reverend by his first name, would they?

 

When I left school I first went to work in a flash department store in Bond St called the White House, it was a well-to-do shop and all the heads of the departments were called Mr or Mrs and then their first names, a very old fashioned practice for the time, so not unheard of.

 

Now I also found a Rev. Thomas Gardner (1794-1881)
And I will probably manage to find a few more that fit the timeframe. So hard to tell which one it could be, as the seller doesn't have any more leads.

 

I've checked it again, and it's a clean lid.

Thermometer case seems very plausible

 

I think the stippling inside the lid was to get a better grip on the cement.

There could be many Rev. Gardners, because sons often followed in their father's footsteps.
